Gaithersburg man arrested after assaulting Montgomery County police officers


Montgomery County Police announced the arrest of 28-year-old Michael MacCrae Shannon following a violent incident in Gaithersburg on Monday, December 16, 2024. Officers responded to a call about a person in distress in the 7900 block of Otter Cove Court in Gaithersburg around 11:43 PM. Upon officers' arrival at the scene, Shannon became aggressive and attacked them. Despite the assault, officers managed to subdue Shannon, and take him into custody without calling for additional backup.

One of the officers involved sustained a serious injury during the altercation, and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Fortunately, the injured officer is expected to make a full recovery.

Shannon was evaluated by Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Services at the scene, and subsequently transported to a local hospital for medical clearance. Once discharged, he was taken to the Central Processing Unit. Shannon is currently being held without bond and faces charges of second-degree assault, disorderly conduct, and intoxicated endangerment.
