KFC introduces Mac & Cheese Bowls

KFC sidesteps the chicken sandwich wars - after serving a very worthy entry in its Cheetos Chicken Sandwich last month - by introducing two new Mac & Cheese Bowls. Choose Original or Spicy Nashville Hot popcorn chicken nuggets to top the Colonel's mac and cheese, and a Taco Bell-style shredded cheese garnish.
The bowls are available in a $5 Fill Up meal, which includes a medium drink and the Colonel's homestyle Chocolate Chip Cookie. I recommend the Mountain Dew Sweet Lightning to accompany this meal.

Armed robbery in Montgomery Village

Montgomery County police are looking for two male suspects in the July 27 armed robbery in the 10100 block of Ridgeline Drive in Montgomery Village just after 12:30 AM. An adult male and female were walking down the street when they were confronted by two men. One assaulted the male victim, and brandished a firearm. The other man assaulted the female, and grabbed her purse. Both men then fled the area.

Credit cards from the female victim's purse were used at the Shady Grove Metro station, and then at multiple businesses in Suitland. It appears the suspects may have used Metro in the committing of this crime, and as a getaway method.

Investigators are asking anyone with information regarding the suspects or this armed robbery to call the 6th District Investigative Section at 240-773-5770.  Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).  Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest and/or indictment for this felony crime.

Ghost of the Gaithersburg Borders sign

The Borders in Gaithersburg is gone, one of several bookstores greatly missed that have closed their doors in Montgomery County. But the outline of the Borders logo letters can still clearly be seen on the building facade. Borders was located at 534 N. Frederick Avenue.

Silver Diner Gaithersburg Review

The newest Silver Diner opens for dinner hours this week at Rio Lakefront, beginning tonight. Located in the old Cafe Deluxe space, but completely remodeled with new lakefront boardwalk patio seating, the restaurant will officially open on Monday, August 26, 2019 for breakfast, lunch and dinner service.
I was able to test out the new menu at a soft opening night.  While the menu is not a book like The Cheesecake Factory, Silver Diner has the same ability to please a family or group of very diverse tastes. They also have even more options than the Cheesecake Factory for those on special diets. Whether someone wants a trendy, internationally-inspired dish, or old favorites like meatloaf, crab cakes or burgers, it's almost certain each diner will find something of interest,
For my dinner, I ordered Mom's Chicken Noodle Soup (a cup; bowl size is also available), the Chicken Tender Platter with crispy fries and coleslaw, and a seasonal dessert special, the Churro Doughnut Sundae, topped with Breyers vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, sprinkles, and drizzled with Nutella and raspberry sauce.

Watkins MIll I-270 interchange construction update (Video+Photos)

Here's a look at the current status of the new Watkins Mill Road interchange with I-270 in Gaithersburg. Some views are from the "Paramount" side to the east, and others are from the Parklands development side to the west. You'll also see some sad scenes of the promised-but-never-built Watkins Mill Town Center, which joins the never-built Clarksburg Town Center in Montgomery County's Hall-of-Shame. It's still just an empty field, like Clarksburg's.

Barve: Gaithersburg should require Wawa to have EV chargers

Wawa supporters outnumber
opponents in emails to city

The City of Gaithersburg has received additional comment from residents via email on the proposed Wawa gas station and convenience store, which would be located at 405 S. Frederick Avenue. Ten emails have been forwarded by city staff to the Mayor and Council for their review tonight. The emails favor Wawa six to three, with an additional message from an elected official regarding electric vehicles.

Delegate Kumar Barve, who represents Gaithersburg in the Maryland General Assembly, urged the Mayor and Council in an email to require Wawa to have electric vehicle chargers.

Six residents of Gaithersburg wrote to support the opening of a Wawa. "In all my experience, it has surpassed every establishment in both quantity and quality," one wrote.  A former Pennsylvania resident, whose state is the home base of the convenience store chain, wrote that she is "thrilled" that Wawa is finally coming to Montgomery County.

Three residents wrote in opposition to the store and gas station. A resident of Peony Drive said the Wawa will cause more accidents with students crossing the street, and that drivers already "block the box" at the intersection she uses to access MD 355 as it is. "I'll never get across the street if you add a Wawa," she predicted.
