More progress at Royal Farms in Gaithersburg

The famous A-frame roof section is forming at the future Royal Farms at the Spectrum development in Gaithersburg. Walls of the convenience store are taking shape over the metal frame that was previously erected by the fast-moving construction crew. Royal Farms is serious about getting this location up and running as soon as possible.

Developer seeks site plan amendment for Montgomery Village Center townhome project

Developer W-ARC MV Owner VII, LLC is seeking to amend the site plan for its proposed Phase 2 townhome development at the Montgomery Village Center. The applicant wishes to transfer moderately-priced dwelling units (MPDUs) from the associated condo property to the townhomes. It also seeks a reduction in the required number of parking spaces, a revision of its Forest Conservation Plan, and changes to plans for the utilities, stormwater management system, grading and open space for the site.

The project consists of 83 townhomes, 49 of which would be traditional townhouses, and the remaining 34 stacked "two-over-two" townhomes. Changes to the site plan will be considered by the Montgomery County Planning Board at its July 15, 2021 meeting. Planning staff is recommending approval of the amendments.

Aggravated assault at Gaithersburg hotel

City of Gaithersburg police responded to a report of an aggravated assault at a city hotel on Sunday. The assault was reported at a hotel in the 400 block of Quince Orchard Road around 10:51 PM, according to crime data. 

First look at Shake Shack Kentlands design (Photos)

Here is a sneak peek at what the future Shake Shack at 150 Kentlands Square Place in Gaithersburg will look like. It will be located on a streetside pad site in front of Lowes. The bad news is that there is no drive-thru planned for this location. A pickup window is part of the design, however. 

The good news is that it will have an outdoor dining patio. Features will include planters and an "urban shuffleboard table." Shake Shack's application will be reviewed by the Gaithersburg Planning Commission tomorrow night.

Shake Shack coming to Kentlands area of Gaithersburg

Shake Shack is coming to Gaithersburg. The New York-based burger chain has proposed a 4700 square foot restaurant at 150 Kentlands Square Place. A site plan amendment permitting the project will be taken up by the Gaithersburg Planning Commission at its July 7, 2021 meeting at 7:30 PM.

Royal Farms is displaying "the fierce urgency of now" in the construction of its new location at the Spectrum development off Watkins Mill Road in Gaithersburg at I-270. We saw the convenience store building taking shape in my last update, and it's even bigger and further formed now. A crew had already made major progress on the erection of the gas pump canopy for the mega gas station when these photos and video were taken.

Kentlands Chopt update (Photos)

Bringing the Chopt restaurant to fruition at Kentlands Market Square has been an epic struggle. Coming Soon signage went up at its future space way back in April of 2020. A peek inside shows that work has finally begun, but is still in the very early stages of construction.
