Tesla Supercharger station activated at Royal Farms in Gaithersburg (Photos)

The Tesla Supercharger station at Royal Farms at 690 Watkins Mill Road in Gaithersburg has been activated. This is a cooperative effort between the Maryland convenience store chain and the electric carmaker. There are Supercharger stations at other Royal Farms stores around the state, including Ocean City, Grasonville and Laurel. These are placed at stores along major highways such as I-95, US 50, and - in this case - I-270, as part of Tesla founder Elon Musk's plan to make it easy for Tesla drivers to take longer range trips using the interstate system. Musk has recently agreed to open 7,500 Tesla charging stations to users of competing brands by the end of next year.

Update on Tesla Supercharger station at Royal Farms in Gaithersburg

The Tesla Supercharger station at Royal Farms at 690 Watkins Mill Road in Gaithersburg is nearing completion. There are still protective covers over the power cabinets that have been installed. This Supercharger site is now appearing in the Tesla database. It says it has a Q1 2023 target opening date.

Royal Farms finally gets permanent sign in Gaithersburg (Photos)

Royal Farms has been open for nearly a year at 690 Watkins Mill Road in Gaithersburg. But it is only now getting its permanent roadside sign installed. A parked pickup truck with an electronic sign showing current gas prices (yikes!) has been handling the job until now.

A Tesla Supercharger station is being installed at the Royal Farms at 690 Watkins Mill Road near the I-270 interchange. Part of the property has been fenced off for the installation project. The effort to place these charging sites near interstates has been underway for about a decade. Further south in Bethesda, Montgomery Mall has been another I-270 proximate site for Tesla chargers off and on over the years.

Royal Farms pickup truck on-site ahead of Gaithersburg store opening

The first Royal Farms location in Montgomery County is scheduled to open on Thursday, February 17, 2022. Last night, two nights before opening day, a special Royal Farms pickup truck was parked in the lot of the future convenience store and mega gas station at 690 Watkins Mill Road in the Spectrum development in Gaithersburg. 

Wrapped in Royal Farms promotional graphics, the truck displays the chain's famous fried chicken, sub sandwiches, "award-winning" Royal Farms hot coffee, what appears to be a rewards card, and an illustration of the trademark gas station and store architecture. Beyond it, you can see the gas price sign that is not yet showing the hefty 2022 U.S. gas prices you'll pay. Keep on truckin'!

Royal Farms opening February 17 in Gaithersburg - another sneak peek! (Photos)

The first Royal Farms store in Montgomery County will open February 17, 2022 at 690 Watkins Mill Road in Gaithersburg, according to a banner along the street. Merchandise is being put on the shelves, and a giant chicken has been installed outside the store. The chain is known for its famous fried chicken.

A lot of finishing touches have been added to the new Royal Farms convenience store and mega gas station at 690 Watkins Mill Road in Gaithersburg in just a short time. Most obvious is the lighted signage on the store and car wash, as well as the wayfinding signs in the parking lot, bike racks and outdoor dining tables. Inside, wall signage mentions Gaithersburg and touts the chain's famous chicken. While soda and coffee dispensers have been installed, most shelves are still empty. Montgomery County's first Royal Farms is scheduled to open next month, the company says.
