LuminoCity Winter Lights Festival returning to Gaithersburg for 2025
The LuminoCity Winter Lights Festival is returning to Gaithersburg for 2025, from November 14 to January 1, 2026. It will again be held at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds, located at 501 Perry Parkway. "Super Early Bird" tickets are already on sale on the LuminoCity website. VIP Tickets include a Skip-the-Line Pass for fast entry, and a Lumi Goodie Bag with a Lumi Night Light and tote bag. Tickets for children three-and-under are free.

Paranormal Cirque returning to Gaithersburg this spring
Paranormal Cirque is returning to Gaithersburg this spring. The ghoulish and avant-garde spectacle cannot wait for Halloween season, so the darkness will descend upon the Montgomery County Fairgrounds at 501 Perry Parkway from April 4 to April 7, 2025. MCPS student-refurbished car and computer sale Dec. 14 in Gaithersburg
The Montgomery County Students Automotive Trades Foundation, Inc. is a partnership between the business community and Montgomery County Public Schools that provides valuable experience for students in the automotive repair and sales fields. It will be holding its next refurbished car and computer sale this Saturday, December 14, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Gaithersburg High School at 101 Education Boulevard in Gaithersburg.

Second, the list of cars expected to be available at the lottery sale this Saturday is topped off with a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis for $3,495 and a 2010 BMW 128i coupe for $7995. Buyers can take their car to a mechanic for inspection within 5 business days.
All vehicles are Maryland State Inspected prior to delivery and vehicles with less than 90,000 miles come with a 30 day or 1,000 mile powertrain warranty. All vehicles with 90,000 or more miles are discounted and sold in “as is” condition. Tags, title, fees, and sales tax are in addition to the vehicle price. A $100 deposit (checks preferred; cash accepted) is required to hold a vehicle. The balance of the purchase price is due when you receive the vehicle. All deposits are non-refundable one week (5 working days) after sale.

Signs of life at Mayan Monkey Brewing Co. in Gaithersburg
Mayan Monkey Brewing Co. was expected to open in late June 2024 at 227 E. Diamond Avenue in Olde Towne Gaithersburg, but the website still says "coming soon," and their Instagram page remains blank. However, there have been some signs of life in recent days at the historic building. Signs regarding a private party were posted this past Saturday at the brewery. A Facebook event listing indicates the brewery will be hosting a concert this Friday, August 30, 2024.
"Join us at Gaithersburg's newest music venue - Mayan Monkey Brewing Company," the Bad Influence Band writes in their event listing. "They open August 2024 and we're excited to break this new club in. They will have great food, drinks and a killer sounding music room. MMBC is in the building formally occupied by Old Town Brewery and Summit Station."

The McDonald's at 465 N. Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg will host a Customer Appreciation Day tomorrow, Saturday, July 20, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. IKEA sets opening date for Gaithersburg store
IKEA has set an opening date for its first Montgomery County store, a small-format Plan & Order Point store at 101 Boardwalk Place at Rio Lakefront in Gaithersburg. The store will open on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at 11:00 AM. A grand opening celebration will be held from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. There will be giveaways, free food (Swedish meatballs?), and free drinks. Attendees will also be able to compete for prizes in the Spin to Win game. Wawa sets opening date for Gaithersburg store
The first Wawa to open in Montgomery County finally has an opening date, after nearly five years of anticipation, planning, government approvals and construction. Wawa will open at 405 S. Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg with a Grand Opening event on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 7:45 AM. Festivities will begin with a countdown at 7:45 AM, until the doors officially open at 8:00 AM. The first 100 customers through the door will receive a commemorative "In My Wawa Era 60th Anniversary" t-shirt, which recalls the opening of the first Wawa store in Folsom, Pennsylvania in 1964. All customers will receive a free hot coffee in the size of their choice.
A ceremonial toast will be held at 8:30 AM, followed by a Hoagies for Heroes competition in which the Gaithersburg Police Department and Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Station 8 personnel will build Wawa sandwiches. Wawa mascot Wally Goose will then lead a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
"Wawa is proud to open its doors to provide trusted quality products, convenience, new jobs, support, and to Fulfill Lives in the community," the company said in a statement. "The event will celebrate new associates and customers and simple gestures, like holding the door for one another, that together make a big difference in making Wawa’s family-like store atmosphere possible. Paranormal Cirque to return to Gaithersburg this spring
The ominous Clown Castle big top tent will rise again in Gaithersburg this spring. Paranormal Cirque experienced such unnatural success with its premiere stop in the city last year that the attraction will drive stakes into the Montgomery County Fairgrounds this spring from April 4 through April 7, 2024. A combination of a circus, theatre and cabaret, Paranormal Cirque brings acrobats, illusionists, "freaks," and "mysterious creatures" together under one tent.

Gaithersburg Labor Day Parade canceled for 2023
The Gaithersburg Labor Day Parade scheduled to take place this afternoon, September 4, 2023, has been canceled. Mayor Jud Ashman announced the cancellation Sunday. He said the reason for the cancellation was the high temperatures forecast for today. Accuweather predicted a high of 98 degrees for the day. The parade will not be rescheduled.

Cirque Italia Water Circus in Gaithersburg through Sunday
Cirque Italia returns to Gaithersburg this weekend at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds at 501 Perry Parkway. This time, instead of the Paranormal Circus, it is their Water Circus. That means a circus spectacular under the big top, and over a 35,000-gallon water stage. Tickets are available online for shows tonight through Sunday afternoon.

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore to attend hotel ribbon cutting in Gaithersburg
Maryland Governor Wes Moore (D) will participate in a ribbon-cutting at the newly-renovated DoubleTree by Hilton at 620 Perry Parkway in Gaithersburg on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at 3:30 PM. Gaithersburg Mayor Jud Ashman will also be there. The extensive renovations added a Made Market that features Starbucks coffee and grab-and-go breakfast items. Downstairs, the lobby was reconfigured, and on the main level, a Knife & Fork Lounge was constructed.
Apartment-style suites with full kitchens are now among the room types guests may choose from. Fitness facilities and event spaces were also fully updated. The hotel is close to the Montgomery County Fairgrounds, and the Montgomery County Airpark.

Gaithersburg Dunkin'/Baskin Robbins hosts grand opening Thursday w/ 99¢ ice cream scoops, giveaways

Gaithersburg St. Patrick's Day Parade better late than never this Saturday
Gaithersburg knows how to extend a party. Guinness mugs may be empty around the world, but the St. Patrick's Day celebration is just getting started here. The city's annual St. Patrick's Day parade was frozen out by the nasty weather last weekend, and has been rescheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 10:00 AM. Gaithersburg cancels Oktoberfest for 2021
It's been a year of cancellations in Gaithersburg. First the Fourth of July fireworks, then the Labor Day fireworks, and now the Oktoberfest that was scheduled for Sunday, October 10, 2021. “With the Delta variant still pervasive in our community, we felt it was prudent to cancel the event for this year,” Carolyn Muller, Director of the Gaithersburg Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture, said in a statement.
