LensCrafters to open store at Rio Lakefront

The eyeglass business is booming these days, it seems. LensCrafters continues to expand its number of locations in Montgomery County. A new store is now planned for Rio Lakefront in Gaithersburg, near the Target. "Coming Soon" signage is in place on the future storefront. LensCrafters is already preparing to open a store at Pike & Rose in the near future.

Clarksburg Tavern building for sale

The building housing Clarksburg Tavern at 23315 Frederick Road in Clarksburg is now on the market for sale. Clarksburg Tavern is still open, as it is simply a tenant in the building, which is currently 100% leased. 

If you purchased the building, for example, you would be the landlord of Clarksburg Tavern and any other tenant. When their leases expire, you would have the option to renew them, or to redevelop the property. The 14,200 square foot building at a prime location on MD 355 has an asking price of $3,800,000.

AstraZeneca renames Gaithersburg building for José Baselga

AstraZeneca renamed the flagship building at its Gaithersburg campus for former executive Dr. José Baselga, an oncologist and researcher this morning. Baselga is most revered for his discoveries that led to several groundbreaking treatments for breast cancer. He joined AstraZeneca after working at several prominent institutions, including Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology, and Massachusetts General Hospital. Baselga passed away last May at the age of 61, from complications of Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease.

Special cocktail for The Batman at Cinépolis in Gaithersburg

Cinépolis at Kentlands Market Square in Gaithersburg is offering a special cocktail for the opening weekend of The Batman. "Night in Gotham" is made with Dewar's scotch, Coca-Cola, brown sugar spice and a "filthy cherry" garnish. It wiil be served in a black cup while supplies last. Cinépolis is located at 629 Center Point Way.

DHL Express opens ServicePoint in Gaithersburg

German shipping giant DHL Express has opened a pop-up Servicepoint at 260 N. Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg. The 2200 cubic foot facility offers shipping and mailing services. It is entirely powered by solar-charged batteries, the company said in a press release yesterday.

Montgomery Village Starbucks construction update (Photos)

Here's a look at the progress on the new Starbucks at the Montgomery Village Shopping Center. The Tyvek wrap on the exterior has been replaced with Bituthene. Window glass is now in place, as are safety bollards around the pad site's sidewalk. 

Pedestrian struck at Rio Lakefront in Gaithersburg

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services personnel are responding to a report of a pedestrian being struck at Rio Lakefront in Gaithersburg. The victim was struck in front of the Target store, according to the MCFRS dispatcher. There is so far no report on the victim's injuries.
