Montgomery County police arrest 2 in Germantown grocery store shooting


Montgomery County police have arrested two suspects in the March 20, 2026 shooting inside a grocery store in Germantown. One person was wounded in the shooting, which took place inside the Giant supermarket at 18331 Leaman Farm Road at 8:40 PM. Both suspects were armed, police say, and one of them fired multiple shots inside the store while chasing the victim.

Marcus Isaiah Jovon Braithwaite, 19, of Germantown and Demba Tandia, 16, of Montgomery Village have been charged with attempted first-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime. Braithwaite is being held at the County jail pending a bond hearing. Tandia was located in Sterling, Virginia, and is awaiting extradition to Montgomery County. Police have released surveillance camera footage of the incident.

Clarksburg shooting leaves 2 victims seriously injured


Montgomery County police responded to a report of a shooting in Clarksburg at 10:52 AM this morning. The shooting was reported in the 13220 block of Catawba Manor Way. Officers responding to the scene found two male victims suffering from serious injuries. No suspect is in custody at this time, police say.

Police officer shoots alleged gunman who fired at cops in Montgomery Village


A Montgomery County police officer shot an alleged gunman who police say fired two shots at officers first in Montgomery Village yesterday, March 24, 2026. The officers were proactively patrolling in the high crime area of Lost Knife Circle Tuesday afternoon. While in the vicinity of Montgomery Village Plaza on Contour Road, they observed suspicious activity, and approached an adult male suspect to investigate. The suspect took off running, and attempted to seek refuge in an apartment complex on Lost Knife.

As officers turned a corner at the complex in pursuit, the suspect allegedly fired two shots at them. One County officer returned fire, striking the suspect. They provided first aid to the suspect, who was then transported to a local hospital in stable condition. He is expected to survive. 

Officers recovered a handgun at the scene. No injuries were reported beyond the suspect. The officer who fired the shots has been placed on administrative leave, and the Major Crimes Division is conducting the investigation into the shooting. Police said this is an active and ongoing investigation, and that the suspect’s identity and charges will be released when they become available.

Shooting at Gaithersburg McDonald's


Gaithersburg City police are investigating a shooting that took place at the McDonald's restaurant at 465 N. Frederick Avenue last night, January 19, 2026. Officers from the City and Montgomery County police responded to a report of a shooting there at 7:08 PM Monday. They found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg. He was transported to a local hospital, where his injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening. 

Police refer to there being multiple suspects in the shooting, who fled the scene and remain at large. Two suspects arrested in Jan. 2 homicide in Gaithersburg


Montgomery County police have arrested two suspects in the January 2, 2026 shooting death of 18-year-old Taeyon Malachi Prather in Gaithersburg. 16-year-old Wisdom Da-Silva Baptista, of Gaithersburg, and 20-year-old Kevin Jesus Perez Fierro, of Montgomery Village, have been charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery. The robbery was allegedly of a jacket that Prather had intended to sell to the suspects, and other unspecified property belonging to the victim. 

Detectives say a tip submitted to the department led to the apprehensions. Arrest warrants were obtained for both suspects on January 11. The following day, Perez Fierro was taken into custody at his home in Montgomery Village, and Da-Silva Baptista was arrested at his home in Gaithersburg. Both suspects are being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit while they await bond hearings. While Da-Silva Baptista has been charged as an adult, his mugshot was not released by police.

Police investigate homicide in Gaithersburg


Montgomery County homicide detectives are investigating the death of a man in Gaithersburg on Friday, January 2, 2025. At 7:21 PM that evening, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service personnel were dispatched to a parking lot in the 23600 block of Rolling Fork Way. The 911 caller had reported a man laying on the ground there. When paramedics arrived at the scene, they found 18-year-old Taeyon Malachi Prather of Gaithersburg suffering from a gunshot wound. He was declared dead, and police were then called to investigate.

Prather's death was ruled a homicide after a coroner's examination. Police say no suspect is in custody and no suspect information is available at this time. Detectives are asking anyone with information related to this homicide to contact Crime Solvers of Montgomery County. Woman, 3-year-old girl wounded in Gaitherburg shooting


Montgomery County police are investigating a shooting in Gaithersburg on Friday, June 27, 2025, that left a woman and a three-year-old girl with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 8300 block of McCullough Lane around 8:50 PM Friday night. After securing the scene, and locating evidence, officers learned that the woman and child had been transported to a local hospital. Police believe this was an isolated incident.

Gaithersburg man dies in Montgomery Village shooting


A shooting in Montgomery Village yesterday morning has left a Gaithersburg man dead, Montgomery County police announced today. The adult male victim has not yet been identified, but officers have arrested the man they say was the shooter. Officers responding to the shooting in the 19300 block of Club House Road at 11:38 AM found the victim suffering from several gunshot wounds. They attempted lifesaving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives determined the identity of the alleged shooter shortly afterward. By 12:15 PM, 20-year-old Oliver Alexis Perez Fierro of Montgomery Village had already been taken into custody. A search warrant executed at Perez Fierro's residence led to the discovery of items linking him to the shooting. 

Perez Fierro has been charged with 1st-degree murder, and the use of a handgun in the commission of a felony. He is currently being held without bond. His mugshot has not been released.

Police believe the incident was related to a dispute between the alleged shooter and the deceased victim. There is not believed to be any danger to the community at this time. Detectives are attempting to contact family members of the victim, and expect to release his identity after they have been notified.

Man shot in Montgomery Village


A man was shot in Montgomery Village on the evening of May 4, 2024, Montgomery County police report. The victim was in the 19000 block of Montgomery Village Avenue at 9:29 PM when he was shot by the unknown suspect. That is a residential area just west of the Montgomery Village Center. Police have not released any description of the suspect as of this writing, nor an update on the condition of the victim, who apparently survived.

Shots fired in Montgomery Village


Montgomery County police are investigating a St. Patrick's Day shots-fired incident in Montgomery Village. Around 9:24 PM on March 17, 2024, residents called 911 after hearing gunfire in the 9300 block of Bathgate Court. That is a townhome community adjacent to William Hurley Park. Police describe the suspect only as a Black male of unknown age.

Frederick man arrested after allegedly discharging firearm in Montgomery Village


A man suspected of firing a handgun in a residential area of Montgomery Village was arrested in another part of the Village, after fleeing police responding to a shots-fired 911 call. Montgomery County police say Zyree Keishon Niseir Wilson, 23, of Frederick, Maryland allegedly displayed and then discharged a handgun in the 9900 block of Ridgeline Drive just before 8:43 PM on January 27, 2024. After setting up a perimeter, officers located Wilson nearby, but continued to pursue him on foot as he ran away from them again. Wilson was captured in the 10600 block of Stedwick Road, and taken into custody.

Wilson was quickly released from jail on $500 bond. He faces charges of obstructing and hindering law enforcement, as well as multiple handgun charges, including possession of a handgun, possessing a loaded handgun, illegally possessing a handgun and illegally possessing ammunition. Police say he had a loaded handgun in his waistband when they caught up with him. There are two outstanding arrest warrants for Wilson in Frederick County, and detectives determined he is ineligible to possess a firearm due to unspecified reasons.

Clarksburg man arrested in Germantown shooting


Montgomery County police have arrested a Clarksburg man accused of shooting a man in Germantown on December 14, 2023. Raymond Leon McRoy, 18, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault and firearms-related charges. He was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he is currently being held without bond.  

McRoy is accused of shooting a man in the 19500 block of Waters Road in Germantown around 9:30 AM that day. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A warrant was issued for McRoy's arrest following an investigation, and he was taken into custody this past Monday.

Montgomery County police arrest suspects in Montgomery Village shooting death

Montgomery County police have arrested two suspects in relation to the November 10, 2023 shooting death of Gaithersburg resident Alan Garnica, 22. The homicide took place in the 18400 block of Lost Knife Circle. Kenes Yair Guevara, 19, and Osman Antonio Maldonado, 20, have both been charged with first-degree murder. Guevara is a resident of Gaithersburg; police did not identify the hometown of Maldonado. Both men remain in custody, awaiting bond hearings.

Police seek suspects in midday fatal shooting in Montgomery Village


Montgomery County police are seeking the public's help in identifying and locating the shooter and anyone else involved in a fatal shooting in Montgomery Village this past Friday, November 10, 2023. At the height of the weekday lunch hour at 12:26 PM, police were called to investigate the sound of gunfire in the 18400 block of Lost Knife Circle, near the Cider Mill Apartments and a busy shopping center (which includes my favorite Little Caesar's in Montgomery County). Arriving at the scene, officers eventually found two men suffering from gunshot wounds.

One victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, but the second, Alan Garnica of Gaithersburg, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Garnica was located about twenty minutes after the initial call at a separate location on the same block.

The suspect(s) remain at large. Lost Knife Circle is one of the highest-crime areas in Montgomery County, and has been for many years.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division are asking for anyone with a home security system, to review video footage, and contact Major Crimes detectives at (240) 773-5070 with any evidence regarding this shooting.

Suspect charged in Gaithersburg drive-by shooting, 2 remain at-large


Montgomery County police have charged the Germantown man they say was driving a white, 2019 Jeep Cherokee involved in a drive-by shooting in Gaithersburg on October 9, 2023. Officers responded to a shots-fired 911 call around 9:55 PM that night in the 7900 block of Spiceberry Circle. No one was struck by the gunfire, but the apartment building and three vehicles in the parking lot were hit. Detectives found shell casings at the scene.

Using surveillance footage, detectives were able to identify the vehicle used for the drive-by. Officers located the Jeep nearby after a short search. Two suspects jumped out of the Jeep, and the driver sped off. The two who fled on foot, including the shooter who was in the Jeep's front passenger seat, remain at large. Officers caught up to the driver near the intersection of Muncaster Mill Road and Norbeck Road, however, and placed him under arrest.

Nicholas Zavala-Aguilar, 19, of Germantown has been charged with first-degree assault and reckless endangerment. He is being held without bond. Police have not released his mugshot. They have released the surveillance video from the scene, and are seeking the public's help in identifying and locating the other two suspects.

Several Montgomery Village-area public schools are on lockdown after shooting at nearby apartment complex


Montgomery County police announced at 1:14 PM this afternoon, March 7, 2023, that several public schools in the Montgomery Village area of the county are sheltering in place, for a "police investigation." The department has not released any details as to why. Schools sheltering in place include Watkins Mill Elementary School, Stedwick Elementary School, Whetstone Elementary School, Montgomery Village Middle School, and Watkins Mill High School. @MoCoPGNews on Twitter is reporting that suspects in a double shooting at an apartment complex off Walkers Choice Road after noon today remain at large.

Masked robbers shoot Gaithersburg man outside his home


A 31-year--old Gaithersburg man is in stable condition at a local hospital, after masked men robbed and repeatedly shot him outside his home Sunday morning. Montgomery County police responded to the report of a shooting at a home in the 9000 block of Emory Grove Road around 6:00 AM that morning.

Officers arriving at the scene found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He said three masked males demanded his car keys and money. Despite complying with their demands, he was then shot multiple times by one of the masked suspects. 

Detectives are asking that residents in the area check their doorbell or security cameras to see if they captured images of the crime, or of the suspects fleeing the scene.

Juvenile charged in mass shooting at Plum Gar Community Center in Germantown


Montgomery County police have arrested and charged a juvenile in the mass shooting at Plum Gar Community Center in Germantown last night. Four people were shot in the incident, which occurred around 10:00 PM Wednesday night, August 18, 2021. One victim has died.

Three victims were found wounded on the basketball court at the center. Police located a fourth victim nearby. All four were transported to local hospitals. The lone adult victim, Axel Trejos, 20, was later pronounced dead.

After setting up a perimeter around the center, officers took two male juveniles into custody. Shilen Wylie, 14, was charged with one count of first-degree murder, and three counts of attempted first-degree murder. Wylie has been charged as an adult, which is why his name has been made public. The second male has so far not been charged.

Shooting on Montgomery Village Avenue

Gaithersburg police responded to a report of a shooting in the unit block of Montgomery Village Avenue around 10:00 PM on Saturday night. Officers found a 19-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound in a parking lot there. Although the victim's injuries were considered serious, he is expected to survive.

Investigators ask that anyone with information about this shooting or the identities of the suspect(s) contact the Gaithersburg Police - Investigative Section at 301-258-6400.

3 arrested in Germantown shooting

Three suspects have been arrested by Montgomery County police in the triple shooting at Gunners Branch Park in Germantown last Saturday, July 25, 2020. A 19-year-old female victim remains in critical condition with life-threatening injuries; two male victims are in stable condition.

Sequan Markell Ashton, 19, of Germantown, Jaheim Ronnell Hicks, 17, of Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, who has been charged as an adult, and Henry Emanuel Tamba, 20, of Germantown were arrested after being seen running through the woods in the 18400 block of Allspice Drive about 20 minutes after the shots were fired. Officers found a fanny pack containing a handgun believed to be the weapon discharged in the shooting, and other evidence.

Hicks was charged as an adult with three counts of attempted second-degree murder. Ashton and Tamba were charged with being an accessory after the fact to first-degree assault. Hicks' mugshot is not being released because he is a minor, police say.
