Gaithersburg Wawa construction update (Photos)

Work is creeping along at a steady but snail-like pace at the site of the future Wawa convenience store and mega gas station at 405 S. Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg. The biggest step forward has been the construction of the ingress and egress curb cuts at the front of the property, and a concrete pedestrian refuge. All of these have ADA grading and warning strips installed.

You can see that men were working on the site yesterday when these photos were taken. Perhaps one of the construction experts reading this can comment below as to what the new concrete-walled trenches are that are just inside the front of the property. They are fairly deep, but the walls protrude above the current ground level of the site. It also looks like some stormwater infrastructure is being installed. Why there is a huge mountain of dirt in the center of the property is unclear.
