Germantown man arrested with loaded gun at Milestone Shopping Center

Montgomery County Police arrested a Germantown man at Milestone Shopping Center, after a traffic stop allegedly revealed he was in possession of a loaded firearm. Brasean Decarlos Wellington, 28, was driving a 2009 BMW at the popular shopping center at 3:35 PM on Friday, March 25, 2022. Officers patrolling the center noticed the vehicle had an "equipment safety violation," and ordered Wellington to stop.

When officers approached the BMW, they reported smelling a strong odor of marijuana eminating from the vehicle's interior. Upon searching the car, they allegedly located a loaded Springfield 9mm handgun hidden in a compartment behind the glovebox. Officers subsequently found that the gun had been reported stolen in Prince William County, Virginia.

Wellington was arrested and transported to the Central Processing Unit, where he has been charged with multiple firearm related charges. The Montgomery County Police Department reports that the arresting officers were with the 5th District Action Community Team.
